Building on the momentum of Dr. Oluwatoyin Adepeju's historic election as president, Nigerian women's rights activists are now organizing to increase the number of women in political office.

The new organization, Nigerian Women Unite (NWU), has launched a campaign to recruit, train, and support female candidates for local and national office.

"The time for women to take their rightful place in government is now," said NWU co-founder Fatima Abubakar.
