Scholarships for Studying Foreign Languages

All eligible applicants are required to submit their applications through the Sacramento State Scholarship Application Portal.

The Sacramento State Alumni Association World Languages and Cultures Undergraduate/Graduate Scholarship is available to Sacramento State students.

Annually, a $500 scholarship will be awarded to one undergraduate or graduate student who is enrolled in any minor, major, or graduate degree in the field of world languages and literatures (HEALS not eligible). Details

The Margaret E. Lavezzo Memorial Italy Travel Scholarship

Mrs. Margaret E. Lavezzo, a member of the class of 1973 who received a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology as well as a multiple subject credential in Education in 1993, was honored by the establishment of this scholarship. This scholarship is meant for an Italian minor who wishes to study in Italy while receiving financial assistance. The award is worth $2500.

The Lew Robinson Chinese Endowed Scholarship

Lew Robinson Chinese Endowed Scholarship was established to encourage and support students studying Chinese in the Department of World Languages and Literature in the College of Arts and Letters who are enrolled in the Department of World Languages and Literature. The following requirements must be met by all applicants in order to be considered for this scholarship:

  • Be in good academic standing with a 2.0 overall grade point average.
  • Be studying Chinese as a second language.
  • Be a member of the Junior or Senior Class.
  • You must be enrolled full-time at the time of the award and the submission of your application.
  • Students must submit a brief statement (1-2 paragraphs) on “Why they are minoring in Chinese?” to be considered for the minor.

Japanese Minor Travel Scholarship

One student minoring in Japanese who plans to travel to Japan for educational purposes will be awarded a $1000 travel scholarship. Dedicated in memory of Dr. Thomas J. Swift, a former professor of Asian history at California State University, Long Beach.

The William J. Sullivan Scholarship

To assist students minoring in German or majoring in French or Spanish at CSUS, the Dr. William J. Sullivan Scholarship was established in memory of Dr. Sullivan, former Chair of the Department of Foreign Languages (now World Languages & Literatures) and Dean of the College of Arts & Letters at CSUS. The award amount will not be more than $1000.
